Common Hybrid Event Production Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

At Center Stage AV, we have extensive experience in the event production industry, and we want to help you make your event the best it can be. In recent years, as streaming technology has advanced and circumstances have evolved, hybrid events have become increasingly popular. Hybrid events are a great way to expand your audience and share the experience of your concert, fundraiser, panel discussion, or anything else with more people than just those who can attend in person.

Of course, since hybrid event production is still a relatively new field, people are bound to make mistakes when hosting their own such events. In this article, our team will go over a few common mistakes we have seen in this field and provide tips on how to avoid them.

  • Not Rehearsing – One mistake many people make when it comes to hybrid event production is not rehearsing key elements of the proceedings. Remember, your event will be in person and virtual at the same time, ideally reaching far more people than just the ones in the seats in front of you, which means rehearsing your material is even more important. In particular, we encourage you to practice your transitions in order to move smoothly from one part of your presentation to the next.
  • Neglecting the Virtual Audience – Another hybrid video production mistake is neglecting the guests attending virtually. For example, if you are taking questions from your in-person audience, but not from those participating at home, you’re doing something wrong. To avoid this, we recommend you hire a virtual emcee—someone who will moderate the chat, pass on questions from your online guests, and otherwise engage with the members of your audience who aren’t there in person.
  • Not Prioritizing Broadcast Quality – A third mistake people often make when producing hybrid events is not paying enough attention to their broadcast quality. If your online attendees can’t see or hear what’s going on, they are not going to have a good or productive time. Fortunately, our team is here to help you with this part of the equation—we have the right knowledge, experience, and equipment to make sure your presenters come through loud and clear to everyone watching.
